She has also served as chief editor of the journal ''Al-Watan''. Hawati has published several volumes of short stories, including ''al-Hukm ala Zaynab'' (2001), ''Mamnu istihab al-atfal'' (2004) and ''Sana'a allati'' (2007). Her work has been translated into Italian and was included in ''Perle dello Yemen'', a 2009 anthology of Yemeni literature.
